Nestled within the protected Black River Gorges National Park in southwest Mauritius, Lakaz Chamarel is a small boutique lodge with wonderfully distinctive character. The drive from the airport takes around 55 minutes.

Set at 400 metres above sea level, this inland location offers a different side of Mauritius -- rolling hills, waterfalls, and rich wildlife make it ideal for walking, cycling, and exploration. The beaches of Morne and Baie du Cap are just 10-15 minutes away, with Black River and La Gaulette villages close by. Port Louis is roughly an hour's drive.

The lodge sits within 12 hectares of tropical gardens, guided by a "green concept" philosophy that feels both refined and unpretentious. Facilities include a spa and two swimming pools, while the main building houses the reception, a lounge, TV room, and library.

Each of the 20 rooms and suites carries a different theme, reflecting the island's cultural diversity. Wood, slate, and terracotta keep the interiors grounded in Mauritian charm.
