Shangri-La's Le Touessrok occupies one of Mauritius's most distinctive settings. Set on the east coast with beautiful views across Trou d'Eau Douce Bay, this resort has built a reputation that precedes itself. It is one of the most recognised names in Mauritian hospitality, and for good reason.

The accommodation is spacious, the service is consistently excellent, and the facilities are exceptional. The Givenchy Spa is genuinely indulgent, the kids' club is outstanding, and the overall package attracts a loyal following of repeat guests. That popularity comes at a premium. In Mauritius's fiercely competitive five-star market, better value can certainly be found elsewhere. But a stay at Le Touessrok is not something you are likely to regret.

Shangri-La Le Touessrok is one of Mauritius' best-known resorts, set on the island's east coast in a turquoise lagoon at Trou d'Eau Douce, about an hour's drive from the airport. The 34-hectare property encompasses six secluded white sand beaches stretching 4km, along with its own private island, Ilot Mangénie, which guests reach by daily boat. The vivid, contemporary design comes from the acclaimed studio The Odd Duck.

There are 185 rooms, suites and beachfront villas in total, spread across three collections: Coral, Frangipani and Hibiscus. Interiors revolve around natural island materials, with black and white photography of traditional Mauritian scenes, decorative lighting and locally sourced furniture. Rooms measure 56 to 70 square metres and every one has a separate shower and bathtub, Nespresso machine, minibar, 55-inch interactive TV and round-the-clock room service.

Suite guests enjoy in-suite check-in, premium welcome amenities and a daily restocked minibar, with a la carte breakfast served at Coco's Beach House. Villa guests are looked after by a butler and private chef from 07:00 to 23:00, with door-to-door chauffeur buggy service, a champagne arrival amenity refreshed daily, a welcome gift for children, breakfast in-villa if preferred and complimentary laundry.

TSK is the beating heart of the resort, arranged like a Mauritian home with a lively kitchen, refined dining room, light-filled conservatory and welcoming library, serving a fusion of Mauritian flavours and global culinary artistry from interactive food stations.

Safran brings an elegant Indian dining experience, blending South Indian style with British colonial character around fiery tandoor ovens that produce tandoori specialities and freshly baked naans. Kushi is a tucked-away Japanese hideaway with a sake alcove and Teppan Room, where rare sakes and teppanyaki menus showcase authentic Japanese ingredients.

Coco's is the Mauritian beach house, named for the local word for coconut and standing on the spot where the Le Touessrok story began. It serves classic Mauritian dishes and fresh, locally sourced seafood with panoramic views over Hibiscus Beach and the lagoon, while the Sega Bar mixes cocktails with local rums and exotic fruits alongside small plates, tapas and live local music.

Dining continues on Ilot Mangénie, where a relaxed beachside restaurant and bar a short boat ride away offer fresh salads, artisan pizzas and rum-based cocktails.

The watersports line-up covers snorkelling, scuba diving, windsurfing, kite surfing, water skiing, wakeboarding, sailing, kayaking, paddle boarding, parasailing, banana tubing, big game fishing and glass-bottom boat trips. On land there are two 18-hole championship golf courses at Ile aux Cerfs and Anahita, three floodlit tennis courts, a padel court, archery, electric bike rental, table tennis, beach volleyball and billiards.

Chi, The Spa delivers holistic wellness treatments, and the kids club is the largest on the island, with daily programmes, themed events and a recreation centre for teenagers. Babysitting is available for an additional fee.
