Shangri-La's Le Touessrok Resort & Spa occupies an unusual and genuinely spectacular spot on the east coast, and it remains one of Mauritius' best known and most established addresses. Rooms are generous and well finished, the service and hospitality are unquestionably of a high standard, and the facilities are exceptional throughout, from the indulgent spa to the superb kids club. It is little wonder that a healthy proportion of guests come back.

That popularity carries a price, and in a fiercely competitive five star market you can find better value elsewhere on the island. Even so, a stay at Le Touessrok is unlikely to leave you disappointed.

Shangri-La Le Touessrok sits on Mauritius' east coast at Trou d'Eau Douce, a vibrant resort built around a turquoise lagoon and roughly an hour's drive from the airport. The 34-hectare estate has six secluded white sand beaches running for 4km, and its own private island, Ilot Mangenie, reached by boat each day. The contemporary, colourful design comes from the renowned studio The Odd Duck.

Accommodation

In total there are 185 rooms, suites and beachfront villas, arranged across three collections: Coral, Frangipani and Hibiscus. All take their cues from natural island elements, with black and white photography of traditional Mauritian scenes, decorative lighting and locally rooted furniture. Rooms run from 56 to 70 square metres, each with a separate shower and bathtub, Nespresso machine, minibar, 55-inch interactive TV and 24-hour room service.

Suite guests are checked in within their suite and receive premium welcome amenities, a daily restocked minibar selection and a la carte breakfast at Coco's Beach House. Villa guests have a butler and private chef from 07:00 to 23:00, a door-to-door chauffeur buggy service, a champagne arrival amenity refreshed daily, a welcome gift for children, breakfast served in the villa if preferred, and complimentary laundry.

TSK

The heart and soul of the resort, laid out like a Mauritian home with a busy kitchen, a polished dining room, a bright conservatory and a welcoming library. Interactive food stations serve a fusion of Mauritian flavours and dishes from around the world.

Safran

An elegant Indian restaurant combining South Indian style with British colonial touches. The tandoor ovens are its fiery centrepiece, turning out tandoori specialities and freshly baked naan.

Kushi

A secluded Japanese hideaway where the delicate craft of Japanese cooking is both honoured and elevated. A sake alcove and a Teppan Room offer rare sakes and teppanyaki menus made with authentic Japanese ingredients.

Coco's

The Mauritian beach house, named after the local word for coconut and standing on the very spot where the Le Touessrok story began. Classic Mauritian dishes and fresh local seafood are served with panoramic views over Hibiscus Beach and the lagoon.

Sega Bar

The resort's living room, where cocktails are made from local rums and fresh exotic fruits, alongside small plates and tapas, with live local music making it a lively evening hub.

Dining is also available on Ilot Mangenie, the resort's private island, which has a relaxed beachside restaurant and bar a short boat ride away, serving fresh salads, artisan pizzas and rum-based cocktails.

Facilities & Activities

Water sports include snorkelling, scuba diving, windsurfing, kite surfing, water skiing, wakeboarding, sailing, kayaking, paddle boarding, parasailing, banana tubing, big game fishing and glass-bottom boat trips.

On land there are two 18-hole championship golf courses, at Ile aux Cerfs and Anahita, plus three floodlit tennis courts, a padel court, archery, electric bike hire, table tennis, beach volleyball and billiards.

Chi, The Spa offers holistic wellness treatments, and the kids club is the largest on the island, with daily programmes, themed events and a recreation centre for teens. Babysitting is available at an additional charge.
