The St Regis Le Morne Resort, Mauritius

Perched beneath the dramatic silhouette of Le Morne mountain on Mauritius's southwestern coast, the St Regis Le Morne Resort commands one of the island's finest beachfront positions. It opened as the JW Marriott Mauritius before rebranding to the St Regis in May 2025.

All 172 suites have been given a thorough refresh, bringing a crisp, contemporary feel throughout. Even the entry-level Junior Suites are spaciously proportioned at 65 sqm, though we found the placement of the desk-cum-dressing table within the bathroom a little puzzling. Upsizing brings beachfront access suites, grand suites and the serene Manor House Spa suites into play. For extended families or groups travelling together, the four-bedroom Grand Beachfront Villa is a beautifully appointed option with serious wow factor.

Dining is a genuine highlight here. The Le Manoir restaurant delivers a magnificent breakfast spread in elegant surroundings, while the Boathouse Bar and Grill offers relaxed charm and Floating Market brings Southeast Asian flair. Atsuko turns out precise, carefully executed Japanese dishes. Simply India was our personal standout: refined Indian cooking served with real style.

Facilities are everything you would expect from a premium modern resort. The water sports and dive centre, spa, fitness club and Kite Flyers kids club are all impressively well run. We also appreciated the quiet library for catching up on work, and the games room and private cinema provided plenty of entertainment options.

Service during our stay was solid if not flawless, and we did encounter a degree of pushy upselling. This is a pattern we have noticed elsewhere with large international hotel chains. Those quibbles aside, the resort has improved markedly since its earlier days. The St Regis Le Morne is a strong choice for active couples, families or groups of friends who value excellent dining and a broad range of activities.

Set on the UNESCO-listed southwestern coast of Mauritius, the St Regis Le Morne Resort sits on one of the most recognisable beaches in the Indian Ocean, at the foot of the iconic Le Morne mountain. The property combines colonial-inspired architecture with a seaside manor feel, housing 172 all-suite accommodations with dedicated butler service.

Suite options begin with 65 sqm Junior Suites offering garden or partial ocean views, and Family Suites with interconnecting rooms. Mid-tier choices include Ocean Haven and Heritage categories with either beach access or private balconies. The Manor House Spa Suites (146-214 sqm) are located in the original manor building and include in-suite spa treatments. At the top end, the Grand Beachfront Villa spans up to 1,659 sqm across one to five bedrooms, with a heated infinity pool, three plunge pools, a private gym, steam room, dedicated chef and round-the-clock butler service.

Dining options cover five outlets across international and regional cuisines. Le Manoir serves French-Creole dishes, Atsuko offers Japanese teppanyaki and sushi, The Floating Market specialises in Southeast Asian food, Indya focuses on Indian cuisine, and The Boathouse Bar and Grill delivers Aegean-inspired seafood and grilled fare. La Patisserie provides pastries and coffee, while The St Regis Bar serves cocktails beneath a hand-painted mural of Le Morne.

The St Regis Spa spans 2,000 sqm with 12 treatment rooms, couples suites and a relaxation terrace. Leisure amenities include two heated pools, a fitness club, tennis court, watersports and diving centre, the Kite Flyers kids club (ages 4-12), a Drawing Room for teens with games and a PS5, a library and the La Palme d'Or private cinema. Evening rituals include Sabrage at Sunset, Afternoon Tea by the Sea and the Bloody Mary Ritual with a Mauritian twist. St Regis Butler Service is extended to all guests as standard, with personalised attention throughout their stay.
